What is Cardiology?

Cardiology is the branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats diseases of the heart and blood vessels, including coronary artery disease, heart attack, heart failure, valvular disease, and heart rhythm disorders.

Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns affecting people of all ages, ranging from congenital heart defects present at birth to age-related conditions like coronary artery disease and valvular disease. Our cardiologists treat the entire spectrum of cardiac problems, including congenital heart disease, stroke, coronary artery disease, heart attack, heart failure, heart rhythm disorders, and valvular disease.

Our Cardiology Department follows a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, interventional radiologists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive, patient-centred care. This team-based model, combined with advanced diagnostic and interventional technology, helps achieve better outcomes for even the most complex cardiac cases.

Conditions We Treat

Coronary Artery Disease

Narrowing or blockage of the arteries supplying blood to the heart, the leading cause of heart attacks.

Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction)

Sudden blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle, requiring emergency treatment to limit damage.

Heart Failure

A condition where the heart is unable to pump blood efficiently, requiring ongoing medical management.

Heart Rhythm Disorders (Arrhythmia)

Irregular heartbeats that may require monitoring, medication, or device therapy such as a pacemaker.

Valvular Heart Disease

Malfunction of one or more heart valves, disrupting normal blood flow through the heart.

Congenital Heart Disease

Heart defects present since birth, such as ASD, which may require device closure or surgical correction.

Stroke

Sudden interruption of blood supply to the brain, often linked to underlying heart and vascular disease.

Aortic Aneurysm

A dangerous bulging of the aorta carrying a risk of rupture, requiring surgical repair.

Peripheral Artery Disease

Narrowing of arteries supplying the limbs, diagnosed and treated through peripheral angiography and angioplasty.

Our Service and Procedures

Diagnostics

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) — A quick, painless test recording the heart's electrical activity to detect rhythm abnormalities and signs of a heart attack.

  • Echocardiography & 2D Echo — Non-invasive imaging using sound waves to assess heart structure, function, and blood flow.

  • Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) — Detailed internal imaging of the heart for a closer look at specific structures.

  • Coronary Angiography (CAG) — Diagnostic imaging using contrast dye to assess blockages in the coronary arteries.

  • Peripheral Angiography (PAG) — Imaging to locate blocked or narrowed arteries supplying the legs, feet, or arms.

  • IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) — Advanced catheter-based imaging for precise assessment of blockages and vessel health.

Treatment & Intervention

  • Coronary Angioplasty — Balloon-based procedure to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries and restore blood flow.

  • ROTA (Rotational Atherectomy) — A rotating catheter device used to remove hard plaque buildup in complex blockages.

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery (CABG) — Surgical creation of new routes for blood flow around blocked arteries.

  • Pacemaker Implantation — Device implantation to regulate slow or irregular heartbeats.

  • Balloon Mitral Valvotomy (BMV) — Minimally invasive treatment for mitral valve narrowing (mitral stenosis).

  • Heart Valve Repair or Replacement Surgery — Surgical correction of malfunctioning heart valves.

  • ASD Device Closure — Minimally invasive closure of a congenital hole between the heart's upper chambers.

  • Congenital Heart Surgery — Surgical correction of heart defects present since birth.

Why Apex Hospitals for Cardiology?

300+ Cardiac Surgeries & 600+ Angioplasties Every Year

Our cardiology team's high surgical and procedural volume reflects deep, hands-on experience across the full range of cardiac conditions — from routine angioplasty to complex bypass surgery and congenital heart correction.

Advanced Technology — IVUS and ROTA

Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Rotational Atherectomy (ROTA) allow our interventional cardiologists to precisely assess and treat even complex, heavily calcified blockages that may not be manageable with standard angioplasty alone.

Internationally Recognised Expertise

Dr. B. M. Goyal is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI, USA) — bringing internationally benchmarked standards to cardiac care in Jaipur.

Fully Equipped Cardiac & CTVS ICU

Patients undergoing cardiac procedures and surgery are supported by a dedicated, fully equipped Cardiac and CTVS ICU, ensuring continuous specialist monitoring through the critical post-procedure period.

Patient Journey

1

Book a Consultation / Emergency Referral

Book online, call our helpline, or walk in during OPD hours, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Patients with chest pain, breathlessness, or suspected cardiac emergencies are seen on an emergency basis, 24/7.

2

Diagnostic Evaluation

Your cardiologist reviews your history and orders relevant tests — ECG, echocardiography, TEE, or coronary angiography — to confirm the diagnosis and determine the right treatment approach.

3

Treatment Plan Discussion

Treatment options are explained clearly — medical management, angioplasty, device implantation, or surgery — along with risks, benefits, and recovery expectations for each option.

4

Procedure or Surgery

Procedures range from angioplasty and device implantation to complex bypass and valve surgery, performed with advanced technology including IVUS and ROTA for precise treatment of complex blockages.

5

Post-Procedure ICU Care & Recovery

Patients are monitored in the dedicated Cardiac and CTVS ICU during the critical recovery period. Most angioplasty patients are discharged within 1–2 days; surgical patients typically within 5–7 days, depending on complexity.

6

Cardiac Rehabilitation & Follow-up

Our dedicated cardiac rehabilitation centre supports faster recovery after cardiac procedures, with structured follow-up to monitor heart function and manage long-term risk factors.

Frequently Asked Questions

“If you can't find the answer to your question here, please don't hesitate to contact our support team for assistance.”

Apex Hospitals, Malviya Nagar is among the best heart hospitals in Jaipur, performing 300+ cardiac surgeries and 600+ angioplasties every year, with a fully equipped Cardiac and CTVS ICU and advanced technology including IVUS and ROTA.

Angiography is a diagnostic test using contrast dye and X-ray imaging to identify blockages in the coronary arteries. Angioplasty is the treatment itself — a procedure that uses a balloon, and usually a stent, to open the blocked artery and restore normal blood flow.

ROTA uses a specialised catheter with a tiny rotating blade to remove hard, heavily calcified plaque from coronary arteries that may not respond well to standard balloon angioplasty alone. It is used in select complex cases to restore blood flow more effectively

IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) uses a tiny ultrasound probe on a catheter to create detailed images from inside the coronary arteries, allowing doctors to assess blockages and vessel health with greater precision than X-ray imaging alone

An ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) is a congenital hole in the wall between the heart's upper chambers. In many eligible patients, it can be closed using a minimally invasive device closure procedure through a catheter, avoiding the need for open-heart surgery.

Coronary angioplasty is a medical procedure designed to alleviate blockages or narrowing in the coronary arteries responsible for supplying blood to the heart. During the angioplasty procedure, a balloon expands a narrowed or obstructed artery. This technique involves inflating the balloon to widen the highway and restore proper blood flow.

Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy
Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy

Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is a non-surgical treatment option for achalasia. Instead of traditional surgery requiring a skin incision, POEM utilizes upper endoscopy. POEM offers a minimally invasive approach through endoscopy, avoiding the need for external incisions. POEM is a treatment option for various oesophageal motility disorders (EMDs) that can cause difficulty swallowing.

Kidney Transplant
Kidney Transplant

A kidney transplant involves taking a healthy kidney from one person and placing it into the body of another person who has limited or no kidney function. The kidneys are vital in filtering waste products from the blood and converting them into urine. When the kidneys fail to perform this function effectively, waste products can accumulate in the body, posing a significant health risk.
