Fluoroscopy

Get dynamic, real-time visuals of your internal organs and procedures with advanced fluoroscopy services at Apex Hospitals. Our expert radiologists use cutting-edge imaging systems to guide treatments and ensure precision every step of the way.

What is Fluoroscopy?

Fluoroscopy is a special type of medical imaging that uses X-rays to create real-time moving images of the inside of your body—like a live video feed of your organs in motion.

It’s especially useful during diagnostic procedures or to guide treatments like catheter placements, joint injections, or GI studies.

Using a continuous X-ray beam, fluoroscopy captures images of bones, organs, and instruments as they move, helping doctors make informed decisions instantly.

Why Choose Apex Hospitals for Fluoroscopy?

  • NABH-accredited imaging centre
  • Experienced radiologists and skilled technicians
  • Real-time digital fluoroscopy systems
  • Low radiation exposure with high diagnostic precision
  • 24x7 emergency support for image-guided procedures
  • Insurance-covered services and affordable diagnostic packages

Who Should Get a Fluoroscopy Test?

You may be recommended fluoroscopy if:

  • You're undergoing a barium swallow or barium enema
  • You need a catheter placement or angiography
  • You require pain management injections (joint/spine)
  • You need guidance for GI or urinary tract procedures
  • You're undergoing a minimally invasive interventional radiology treatment

What to Expect During a Fluoroscopy Procedure

1. Preparation

  • Fasting: You may be asked to fast for 4–8 hours before the test
  • Clothing: You’ll need to wear a hospital gown and remove jewellery or metal objects
  • Consent: The test is explained to you, and you'll be asked to sign a consent form

2. During the Procedure

  • Positioning: You may be asked to lie down, stand, or sit depending on the test
  • Contrast Dye: A contrast agent (barium or iodine-based) may be given orally, via IV, or via catheter
  • Live X-Ray Imaging: A fluoroscope is positioned over the area to be scanned; images are displayed in real time
  • Instructions: You may be asked to hold your breath or stay still for clearer images

3. Duration

  • Typically 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the procedure and area of the body

4. Post-Procedure Care

  • Observation: If contrast dye was used, brief observation for allergic reactions may be required
  • Hydration: Drink water to flush the dye from your system
  • Resume Routine: Most patients can resume daily activities immediately

Benefits of Fluoroscopy

  • Real-time imaging to view organs and systems in motion
  • Minimally invasive alternative to open surgery
  • Accurate diagnosis of digestive, urinary, and vascular conditions
  • Quick and painless, often completed within an hour
  • Helps guide treatment and monitor effectiveness in real time
  • Low-dose radiation with high-quality imaging
  • Used across specialties like gastroenterology, urology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, and cardiology

At Apex Hospitals, fluoroscopy is performed by skilled radiologists using advanced equipment to ensure your safety, comfort, and accurate results.
