Laparotomy

Laparotomy, also known as open abdominal surgery, is a surgical procedure performed to gain access to the abdominal cavity. During laparotomy, a large incision is made in the abdominal wall to allow surgeons to examine and treat internal organs such as the intestines, liver, or uterus.
