The urology team at Apex Hospitals, Malviya Nagar, Jaipur successfully performed a highly complex surgery on a 50-year-old patient diagnosed with a severe cancerous tumour in the right kidney, saving the patient's life through advanced surgical expertise and timely intervention.
The surgery was led by Dr. Saurabh Jain, Additional Director- Urology and Kidney Transplant, who explained that the kidney tumour had extended into the right renal vein and further into the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC), one of the body's largest veins. Such cases are considered highly challenging and require meticulous surgical planning and execution.
During the four-hour procedure, the surgical team first secured and controlled the IVC before carefully removing the affected kidney along with the tumour and the tumour thrombus. Following the tumour removal, the IVC was successfully repaired to restore normal blood flow.
Dr. Jain stated that the surgery carried significant risks, as the tumour thrombus had the potential to travel to the heart during the procedure, which could have resulted in life-threatening complications. However, with the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team and advanced surgical infrastructure, the procedure was completed successfully.
The patient recovered well after surgery and is now in stable condition.
