Dr. Saurabh Jain Performs Complex Kidney Cancer Surgery Involving Major Blood Vessel
Doctors at Apex Hospital, Jaipur, have successfully performed a highly complex surgery on a 50-year-old patient by removing a cancerous tumor from the right kidney that had extended into the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC), a major blood vessel, thereby saving the patient’s life.
The surgery was carried out under the leadership of Dr. Saurabh Jain, Additional Director- Urology and Kidney transplant. Dr. Jain explained that the patient had a tumor thrombus extending from the renal vein into the IVC. If the blood clot had travelled further to the heart, it could have proved fatal.
Considering the critical nature of the condition, the medical team carefully planned the procedure. The affected kidney was first dissected, following which the IVC was surgically opened to remove the tumor. After complete removal, the blood vessel was meticulously repaired and restored.
Dr. Jain stated that the surgery involved a high risk of severe blood loss, which could have been life-threatening. However, with coordinated teamwork and precise surgical planning, the complex situation was successfully managed.
The surgery lasted approximately four hours, and the patient has now fully recovered. Dr. Jain added that the availability of advanced medical facilities and globally equipped infrastructure at Apex Hospital has enabled the team to achieve successful outcomes even in the most challenging surgical cases.
